Who we are and what this policy covers
Gloss, also referred to as Gloss Development in some app-store and developer listings, is an independent digital studio based in Bexley, Kent, United Kingdom. For the personal information described in this policy, Gloss is the data controller. You can contact us about privacy at sales@gloss.dev.
This policy applies to gloss.dev, apps published by Gloss—including Electricity Bill Calculator—and other Gloss websites, software and services that link to this page. A product may provide an additional notice where its data use is different or more specific. That product notice should be read alongside this policy.
Information we handle and why
What we handle depends on how you use a Gloss product:
- Information you provide, such as your name, email address, organisation and message when you contact us, request support or discuss a project.
- Product inputs and content, such as figures entered into a calculator, files you choose to process, or information you submit through an app. Many features process this information only on your device.
- Technical and usage information, such as IP address, browser or device type, operating system, app version, diagnostic events and security logs, where a product or its service providers collect these.
- Permission-based information, such as camera images or photos, but only when you choose a feature that needs them and grant the relevant device permission.
- Commercial records, such as proposals, contracts, invoices and correspondence where you become a client or supplier.
We use this information to provide and improve products, respond to enquiries, maintain security, diagnose faults, fulfil contracts, keep required business records and comply with law. We do not use app data for advertising unless a product clearly says otherwise before the data is collected.
Our lawful bases
Under UK data-protection law, we rely on one or more of: taking steps at your request or performing a contract; our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving our services and running our business; consent, where requested; and compliance with legal obligations. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests by contacting us.
Mobile apps and device features
Electricity Bill Calculator
The current Electricity Bill Calculator app performs calculations on your device. The meter readings and tariff figures you enter, together with your most recent calculation settings, are stored locally so they remain available when you return. Gloss does not receive this locally stored information. You can remove it by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.
Camera, photos and other permissions
If a Gloss app offers a feature such as reading a meter with the camera, it will request permission when you choose that feature. Camera access is used to provide the feature you requested. Unless the app tells you otherwise at that point, images are processed on your device and are not retained or transmitted by Gloss. You can refuse or revoke a permission in your device settings, although the related feature may then be unavailable.
Future and other Gloss apps
Some apps may offer accounts, cloud synchronisation, crash reporting, analytics, notifications or other connected features. Before using personal information for those features, the app and its store listing will describe the relevant data use. We keep each app's store privacy disclosures consistent with its actual behaviour and with this policy.
Websites, enquiries and cookies
When you use a Gloss contact form, we use the details you submit to respond and, where relevant, to take steps towards providing services. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent abuse. Enquiries are delivered through Microsoft 365. Cloudflare may also process routine network and security information when hosting and protecting our websites.
Our websites may use cookies or similar browser storage that are necessary for security and core functionality. If we introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or personalisation cookies, we will provide the information and choices required by law before using them.
Retention, deletion and security
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose collected:
- general enquiries and support correspondence are normally kept for up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact;
- client, supplier, contract and financial records may be kept for up to seven years where needed for legal, tax or accounting purposes;
- security and diagnostic records are kept for a limited period appropriate to investigating problems and protecting our services;
- information stored only on your device remains until you replace it, clear the app's storage or uninstall the app;
- account information in a future product will be deleted or anonymised when the account is deleted, except where we must retain particular records by law.
We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls, secure hosting, transport encryption where information is transmitted, software updates and limiting access to people and providers that need it. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
To request deletion of information held by Gloss, email sales@gloss.dev. If an app offers an account, it will also provide the account-deletion route required for that product.
Your rights and choices
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct or erase your personal information; restrict or object to its use; receive a portable copy; and withdraw consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing.
To exercise a right or ask a privacy question, email sales@gloss.dev. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, although we would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first.
Children
Gloss business services and general-audience apps are not directed at children under 13 unless a particular product clearly states otherwise. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without the permission required by law. Please contact us if you believe this has happened.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our products, providers or legal obligations change. We will publish the revised version here and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how an app uses personal information, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
